Authorities in Athens responded urgently after a 4-year-old girl was found walking alone near a kindergarten in the Agios Panteleimonas neighborhood on Tuesday, September 30.

The incident occurred during pickup time, when parents were collecting their children. Reports indicate the girl managed to leave the school unnoticed by staff and wandered onto the street.

She was eventually spotted near a café on Acharnon Avenue by a 34-year-old passerby, who noticed the confused child and escorted her back to the kindergarten before alerting the police. Fortunately, the child was unharmed.

The 59-year-old kindergarten director has been arrested on charges of negligence in supervising a minor. Police are investigating how the child was able to leave the school premises and cross the street without being noticed.
