The seven-year-old girl who survived the devastating road crash in northern Greece that killed the rest of her family remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit, according to hospital officials.

The child, who had been holidaying in Greece with her family from Moldova, is being treated at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Hippokrateio Hospital after undergoing two consecutive emergency operations performed by pediatric surgeons and orthopedic specialists.

She was initially taken to Polygyros General Hospital with severe injuries before being transferred to Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki. Doctors treated her for multiple chest injuries and a fractured femur before carrying out the surgeries. She was later intubated and moved to intensive care.

Sole Survivor of Family Tragedy

The girl is the only survivor of the head-on collision that occurred on the Nea Moudania–Sithonia regional road near Metamorfosi in Halkidiki.

According to authorities, the family’s car, driven by her 35-year-old father, collided head-on with a fuel tanker under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Her 28-year-old mother and six-month-old sibling died at the scene. Her father was rescued from the wreckage with severe head injuries and transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite doctors’ efforts.

The 44-year-old driver of the tanker was not injured in the crash.
