A 7-year-old girl who was the only survivor of a deadly road accident in northern Greece is gradually regaining consciousness, as doctors report encouraging signs in her condition.
The child, who is from Moldova, was seriously injured when the car carrying her family collided with a tanker truck on the Polygyros–Agios Nikolaos provincial road, near Metamorfosi.
The crash claimed the lives of her parents and her six-month-old baby sister, leaving the girl as the sole survivor of the tragedy.
She had remained intubated at the Hippokration Hospital in Thessaloniki, but doctors have now reduced her medication and say she is responding positively. If her condition continues to improve, medical staff are expected to proceed with removing her breathing support.
Doctors said the child is able to communicate with her surroundings and that her recovery is progressing well.
Multiple Surgeries After Serious Injuries
Following the crash, the girl was initially taken to Polygyros Hospital before being transferred to Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki.
She underwent two surgical procedures for severe injuries to her chest and lower femur. After the operations, she was intubated and transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit at Hippokration Hospital, where she continues to receive treatment.
