Airbnb is investing in the historic Lycabettus Hill through the Athens Partnership, supporting the city’s efforts to enhance accessibility and the overall experience for both residents and visitors. The initiative is part of a broader program aimed at upgrading key urban landmarks in Athens.
The funding will contribute to the restoration of several areas across the hill, including the wooden fence that runs along its perimeter. Serving both as a physical entryway and a symbolic threshold to one of the city’s most iconic cultural sites, the fence’s renovation is expected to improve access while preserving Lycabettus Hill’s status as a cherished green and cultural landmark.
Recent municipal efforts have already strengthened the hill’s infrastructure and visitor safety. Over 1,250 new trees have been planted, wooden bridges repaired, and irrigation systems—neglected since the early 2000s—restored. With Airbnb’s support, the city takes another step toward enhancing the hill’s accessibility and overall appeal.
Valentina Reino, Airbnb’s Head of Public Policy & Campaigns for Italy, Greece, and Southern Europe, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable and responsible urban tourism. The partnership reflects Airbnb’s goal of highlighting local cultural heritage while improving the experience for both tourists and residents. The restored pathways will make the hill more accessible to all, allowing visitors and locals alike to enjoy one of Athens’ most breathtaking views from above.
As a prominent green space and tourist destination, Lycabettus Hill exemplifies the intersection of natural beauty, cultural significance, and urban life. The collaborative effort between Airbnb and the Municipality of Athens underscores a shared vision of preserving the city’s heritage while fostering vibrant, inclusive public spaces.
