A public transport ride in northern Athens turned into a frightening incident on Wednesday morning when a man armed with sharp metal objects caused panic among passengers before being arrested by police.

According to information from local authorities, the incident occurred around 08:15 on a city bus operating on the Patissia–Kifisia route. The man boarded the vehicle near the area of Marousi, close to a local healthcare facility, and quickly began acting in a threatening manner.

Witnesses reported that the 39-year-old man, of Bulgarian nationality, was holding two sharp metal blades, reportedly parts of scissors measuring approximately 17.5 and 18 centimetres. He is said to have shouted and used abusive language, alarming passengers who were on board during the morning commute.

The presence of the blades caused immediate panic inside the bus, with commuters reportedly unsure how to respond as the situation unfolded in a confined space.

Police officers from a rapid response unit were dispatched to the scene and managed to intercept the vehicle shortly after the incident began. The suspect was detained without further escalation, bringing the situation under control and ensuring the safety of passengers.
