Extraordinary traffic measures are in place today, Sunday, September 28, due to the Greece Race for the Cure 2025, the country’s largest sports event dedicated to a social cause.
Movement around central Athens is expected to be difficult as several major avenues and streets will be closed to traffic.
Specifically, a full suspension of traffic applies to Vasilissis Amalias Avenue in both directions throughout the day.
From 00:00 to 13:00, further restrictions are in force on:
- Syngrou Avenue (from Ath. Diakou to Vasilissis Amalias, direction Syntagma)
- Vasilissis Olgas Avenue, in its entirety
- Ath. Diakou Street, direction towards Syngrou
In addition, there will be gradual closures along:
- Vasilissis Sofias Avenue (between Vasilissis Amalias and Zacharof)
- Vasilissis Konstantinou Avenue
- Irodou Attikou Street
- Vasil. Georgiou B΄ Street
- Meleagrou, Aravantinou, and Kleanthous Streets
- Akadimias Street (between Charilaou Trikoupi and Vasilissis Sofias)
Cross traffic along the race route is also prohibited, except at controlled intersections:
- Vasilissis Sofias – Rigillis
- Vasilissis Konstantinou – Vasil. Georgiou B΄
Last year’s Athens Race for the Cure drew a record 45,000 participants, making it the second-largest Race for the Cure worldwide.
