Athens Metro is implementing temporary early closures at key stations as part of ongoing track replacement and 5G network installation works. From Tuesday, March 24, to Thursday, March 26, and Sunday, March 29, to Thursday, April 2, the Omonia and Panepistimio stations on Line 2 will close at 9:40 PM, approximately two and a half hours earlier than usual.

The Omonia station will remain open for Line 1 (Kifisia-Piraeus), allowing continued access to other routes. During the works, train services on Line 2 will operate between the Anthoupoli-Metaxourgio and Elliniko-Syntagma sections.

Last train departures before closures are scheduled as follows:

  • From Anthoupoli to Elliniko: 9:25 PM (from Omonia 9:36 PM, Panepistimio 9:38 PM)
  • From Elliniko to Anthoupoli: 9:20 PM (from Syntagma 9:38 PM, Panepistimio 9:39 PM, Omonia 9:41 PM)

Temporary bus service

To support passengers during the early closures, OASA will operate a temporary bus line, X17, running between Syntagma Metro Station and Metaxourgio Metro Station from 9:40 PM until the end of service, Sunday through Thursday.

X17 stops in the Syntagma-Metaxourgio direction:

  • Syntagma (existing stop)
  • Panepistimio (temporary stop on Panepistimiou Street between Sina and Korai)
  • Omonia (existing stop)
  • Metaxourgio (temporary stop on Karaiskaki Square between Deligianni and Achilleos)

X17 stops in the reverse direction:

  • Metaxourgio (temporary stop)
  • Omonia (existing stop)
  • Plateia Klafthmonos (existing stop)
  • Syntagma (existing stop)

During the Easter period (April 3–18), all Line 2 stations will remain open during nighttime hours to accommodate higher passenger demand.

In a statement, STASY emphasized that the temporary disruptions are necessary for the completion of critical infrastructure improvements.
