Μake us preferred on Google The Attica Region, 16 municipalities and the Ministry of Environment have joined forces in what they describe as a major first step toward improving residents’ quality of life by expanding urban greenery and upgrading public spaces.
The “Green Breaths for Attica” program includes 13 urban regeneration projects with a total budget of €60.4 million, funded by Greece’s Green Fund.
“This project is becoming part of the community and represents a new green hub on which we will build our next phase of planning. We will begin connecting neighborhoods through green routes,” Attica Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias said.
The Region’s interventions take on a metropolitan scope, stretching from Lykovrysi to Paiania, from Vrilissia to the municipalities of Elliniko-Argyroupoli, and from Elefsina to Marathon, including the development of the Marathon route ahead of the official return of the international marathon in 2030.
“This program is the epitome of cooperation. Resources become projects, projects become better neighborhoods, and better neighborhoods mean a better quality of life,” Environment Minister Stavros Papastavrou said.
The projects are scheduled for completion in December 2028. The regeneration of squares, green spaces, bike paths and sports facilities will be carried out with a focus on adapting to climate change.
