The investigation into the deaths of a mother and daughter in Athens remains unresolved after autopsy findings failed to identify a clear cause.

Forensic examinations on the two women, who were found dead in an apartment in the Zografou district, did not reveal definitive signs of criminal activity such as stabbing, strangulation, or gunshot wounds. At the same time, medical examiners were unable to establish an obvious natural cause of death.

Officials said the bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition, significantly limiting the ability of forensic experts to draw firm conclusions. Preliminary estimates place the time of death at approximately two months before the bodies were discovered.

Authorities have arrested a 54-year-old man, identified as the son and brother of the victims, on charges of serial homicide. According to reports, he had been living in the same apartment with the bodies during that period.

The suspect reportedly told police that the two women died of natural causes and claimed he chose not to report their deaths to avoid public attention.

Investigators are now placing significant weight on pending toxicology results, which are expected to provide crucial insights into the cause of death.
