Police evacuated the Piraeus courthouse early Thursday afternoon, Sept. 24, after an anonymous caller warned that a bomb had been planted in the building.
Officers cordoned off the surrounding area as the evacuation got underway. A team from the police bomb disposal unit (TEEM) was expected to arrive to carry out a thorough search of the premises.
Authorities said traffic had been halted on Skouze Street, from Notara Street to Akti Miaouli, and on Filonos Street, from Filellinon Street to 2as Merarchias Street.
No timeframe has been given for reopening the roads while the search continues.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the affected streets and follow instructions from police on the scene.
