UPD – A Hellenic Air Force (HAF) F-4 Phantom II, a tandem two-seater, crashed in Tanagra during an aerial display at Athens Flying Week.
There is still no information on the condition of the two crew members. EKAB ambulances have been dispatched to the scene.
Information available so far indicates the Phantom began losing altitude just two minutes after takeoff and crashed as a crowd of spectators watched the display. There are reports that the aircraft suffered a mechanical failure and broke into two pieces after impact.
The Hellenic Air Force is taking part in Athens Flying Week 2026 with F-16 Zeus and T-6 Daedalus aircraft, F-16 Vipers, Rafales, Mirage 2000-5s, the new M-346 trainer jets, and F-4 Phantoms.

The F-4 Phantom II fleet is expected to be retired by the end of the decade. The aircraft are based with the 117th Combat Wing, specifically the 338 “Ares” Squadron.
