Advanced technology for wildfire monitoring and detection was unveiled today at a special event at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, attended by Minister Giannis Kefalogiannis.

The equipment, donated by the Kaizen Foundation, includes 10 integrated communication and drone-link systems that can be deployed quickly anywhere in the country to support the Fire Service. An autonomous Fire Surveillance and Detection Tower Station (LAST) was also delivered and will be installed at a mountain location designated by the fire authorities.

Using technologies such as artificial intelligence, optical and thermal cameras and satellite connectivity, the new systems enable early detection of smoke and fire, along with precise real-time geolocation of ignition points. This allows Fire Service personnel to respond quickly and accurately, even in remote or difficult terrain.

According to the ministry, the systems also help unify and analyze the overall operational picture by collecting data from cameras, drones and other assets within the central operations hub. This enhances real-time decision-making, improves coordination between ground and air crews and supports more efficient use of resources during firefighting operations and other emergency incidents.
