Μake us preferred on Google A 42-year-old British passenger was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for three years, after his behavior on a flight from Newcastle to Heraklion forced the captain to make an unscheduled landing in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The relative Thessaloniki Court found the man guilty of failing to comply with the captain’s instructions and disturbing order during the flight.
During the proceedings, the man admitted to the offenses and apologized for his behavior.
“I was very drunk,” he said.
Passenger’s behavior prompts diversion
The incident occurred during a Saturday night flight when the 42-year-old man was visibly intoxicated and behaved aggressively toward members of the crew and fellow passengers.
He also repeatedly failed to comply with instructions from the flight crew.
The situation eventually forced the captain to change course and land at Thessaloniki’s Macedonia International Airport at around 1:30 a.m.
After the aircraft landed, airport police arrested the man and took him before the court.
The aircraft subsequently continued its journey to its final destination.
