A serious drunk-driving incident unfolded late on Friday night in the wider Athens metropolitan area, when a 52-year-old driver crashed into seven parked cars while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to police, the man was driving from the northern suburb of Metamorfosi toward Varibobi when he first lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on a street in Kifissia. Instead of stopping, he continued driving erratically, making dangerous maneuvers and colliding with two parked cars nearby.

His reckless journey continued through adjacent streets, where he hit three more stationary vehicles. Even then, he did not stop. While driving along another road and turning onto a side street, he crashed into two additional cars before his vehicle was finally brought to a halt.

Police officers who had been following the car conducted a breathalyzer test, which showed an alcohol level of 1.86 mg/l. This is seven times higher than Greece’s legal limit of 0.25 mg/l and three times above the threshold that triggers automatic arrest under Greek law.

The driver was taken into custody and is expected to appear before a public prosecutor later in the day. No injuries were reported, but the incident caused extensive damage to the vehicles involved
