A 52-year-old man was hospitalized in Chania, Crete, after being injured in the legs by shotgun pellets that reportedly ricocheted following a gunshot in the Kissamos area.
According to a complaint, the incident occurred after a 31-year-old Albanian national, who was under the influence of alcohol, asked his 52-year-old friend to go hunting with him.
The older man refused after determining that his friend was not in a condition to hunt.
The 31-year-old then left the area but returned a short time later, carrying a hare in one hand and a shotgun in the other.
According to the same information, the shotgun was pointed toward the ground when it discharged. The pellets reportedly ricocheted and struck the 52-year-old in the legs.
The injured man was taken to Chania Hospital for medical treatment.
Following the incident, the 31-year-old was arrested by authorities. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
