‘Earthquake now’ Tops Google Searches in Greece 2025

Greeks turned to Google for news, trends, and recipes this year, with earthquake alerts, social tourism, Eurovision star Klavdia, and traditional dishes like magiritsa dominating search queries in 2025

Google has released its Year in Search 2025, revealing what captured the attention of Greeks over the past year. At the top of general search queries was “σεισμός τώρα” (‘seismos tora’ – earthquake now), reflecting widespread concern about seismic activity. Other trending topics included Social Tourism 2025 and the newly introduced Personal Number, alongside viral trends such as the toy sensation Labubu.

In the category of public figures, Eurovision contestant Klavdia, who represented Greece and finished sixth, drew the most attention. Socialites like Chrysi Vardinoyanni, who married Nikolaos de Grèce, and singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who made headlines for his hospitalization and family disputes, were also widely searched.

Among notable deaths, Greeks looked up Alexis Kougias, followed by activist Charlie Kirk—murdered at Utah Valley University—and rock legend Ozzy Osbourne.

Sports events also captured public interest, particularly Eurobasket, as well as key football matches involving AEK, Olympiacos, and Panathinaikos. In entertainment, films such as Nosferatu and reality TV shows like Big Brother and GNTM were heavily searched.

Cultural and educational queries included questions about the first Greek feminist, the meaning of Latin phrases, and popular recipes, with magiritsa taking the lead among traditional dishes.
