A two-day celebration of culture, sport and inclusion concludes today and tomorrow, May 22–23, in Itea and Galaxidi, as the 2nd Culture & Sports Festival “Together in Celebration” transforms Fokida into a vibrant meeting point for all ages and abilities.
Organized by the ESTIA “Agios Nikolaos” Charitable Foundation, the festival promotes social cohesion, solidarity and equal participation through a diverse program of artistic and athletic activities designed to welcome everyone, regardless of age, role or difference.

Based in Galaxidi and operating continuously since 1993, ESTIA is considered a pioneering model in Greece. Rather than functioning as a conventional care institution, it has built a living community where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live, work and create alongside caregivers and volunteers in an environment grounded in equality and shared participation.

Among the festival’s highlights is the intergenerational art workshop “Art Sparks,” developed in collaboration with the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation Museum. The initiative brings grandparents and children together through a shared creative experience, using art as a universal language that transcends age barriers and fosters meaningful human connection.

Participants and visitors will also have the opportunity to explore iconic works from the museum’s collection through interactive three-dimensional experiences, reinforcing the idea that art can and should be accessible to all.
Speaking about the collaboration, ESTIA president Giovanna Kampouri praised the museum’s inclusive philosophy, noting that its commitment to equal access extends beyond infrastructure to encompass the entire visitor experience. “The museum has created a framework where people of every age, social background and geographical area can engage with art and feel genuinely included,” she said.

Representing the museum, Katerina Markadaki emphasized the social value of intergenerational cultural initiatives, describing them as spaces for dialogue, empathy and mutual inspiration. She noted that younger participants gain exposure to lived experiences and collective memory, while older generations are encouraged to remain active contributors to contemporary cultural life.

“The contact between generations strengthens social bonds and reinforces the sense of belonging,” she said — a principle that lies at the heart of both the festival and ESTIA’s enduring mission.
