Wildfires in Boeotia, Attica, and Argolida are burning under very unfavorable conditions driven mainly by strong north winds

According to the latest forecast data from the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, the wildfires that broke out on Friday, July 31, in southern Boeotia, Argolida, and Attica are developing under particularly unfavorable fire-weather conditions, mainly because of very strong north winds.

From Friday evening through at least Saturday afternoon, August 1, the strengthened winds are expected to continue across the wider area.

Average wind speeds are expected to reach 40-50 km/h (force 6-7) in places, with gusts likely to exceed 90-100 km/h, based on the latest forecast wind maps, which also mark the locations of the fires that broke out on Friday, July 31.

Forecast data also indicate that the strong winds are expected to persist across the wider area over the coming days, through Sunday, August 2, keeping fire-weather conditions unfavorable.
