Μake us preferred on Google Greek authorities have arrested five people following the drowning death of an 11-year-old Polish girl at a hotel pool in the Chania area of Crete on Sunday.
According to information reported by Greece’s public broadcaster ERT, those arrested include two people responsible for the hotel, a lifeguard and the girl’s parents.
The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. at a hotel in Platanias, Chania, where the girl was vacationing with her family.
The circumstances surrounding how the child entered the pool remain unknown.
Emergency response
The girl was found and pulled from the pool unconscious.
Three doctors from a private medical center in the area that works with the hotel, along with emergency medical responders from Greece’s National Emergency Aid Center (EKAB) and a nurse from the medical center, rushed to the scene.
Doctors and rescuers immediately began resuscitation efforts, which continued as the girl was transported to Chania General Hospital.
A Greek police patrol car cleared a path on Crete’s main highway, to allow the ambulance to reach the hospital as quickly as possible.
The girl was taken to the emergency department, where doctors continued resuscitation efforts using every available means.
Despite the efforts, the 11-year-old girl died, leaving her family in mourning.
