A 25-year-old suspect is appearing before an investigating magistrate on Sunday in connection with the deadly arson attack on a family home in Thessaloniki that claimed the life of Vagia Nestora.
The suspect is the fourth person arrested in the investigation by Greece’s counterterrorism police following the attack, which took place in the early hours of July 1.
According to investigators, his involvement emerged during the testimony of a 24-year-old man who owned an apartment that authorities say was used before and after the attack.
Police state that the 25-year-old received the keys to the apartment from its owner before passing them to a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, whom authorities identify as the perpetrators of the fatal attack.
The 25-year-old was arrested last Thursday under a warrant issued by the investigating magistrate. The apartment owner and the two attackers have already been remanded in custody pending trial.
The investigation concerns a series of serious offenses, including homicide with possible intent, participation in a terrorist organization, causing an explosion, possession of explosives and arson. Authorities said the specific criminal responsibility of each suspect will be determined during the main judicial investigation.
The case file also includes two other arson attacks carried out on the same day at the homes of two political figures in Thessaloniki, which investigators are examining alongside the fatal attack.
