A criminal network involved in large-scale disability benefit fraud in Greece— including fake claims against Greece’s Disability Certification Committees (KEPA) — has been dismantled, with seven people arrested, among them the 58-year-old leader of the organization.
The criminal group, which was defrauding KEPA medical boards by securing disability benefits for ineligible individuals, was taken down by the Internal Affairs Division of the Security Forces.
In targeted operations carried out by Greek police (EL.AS.) in Western Greece, seven suspects were arrested. These included the 58-year-old ring leader, two social insurance fund (EFKA) employeesEFKA Overhaul to Enable Online Access to Social Security Info, one doctor, and two nurses. Charges have also been filed against 34 additional individuals connected to the case, of whom 28 have already been identified.
Since at least December 2024, the group had been manipulating the clinical profiles of clients using falsified medical documentation, sedative medications, and disability aids to secure fraudulent, lifelong monthly disability benefits.
During the investigation, authorities seized €63,615 in cash, pharmaceutical products, medical supplies, and documents containing handwritten notes.
The arrested individuals are being brought before the courts, while the investigation continues to determine the full scope of the criminal operation.
