A total of €727,481.84 has been paid to businesses on the Greek island of Chios affected by the devastating wildfires of summer 2025, under a special government support program.
The program was designed and implemented by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Economy and Finance and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).
More than €509,000 paid to 59 businesses
As part of the special support scheme, €509,643.30 was paid to 59 businesses in the Chios regional unit.
The payments followed the completion of the program’s second phase and the submission of applications through AADE’s myBusinessSupport platform between July 27 and Aug. 7.
The program covers private businesses of all legal forms, including sole proprietorships, provided they meet specific eligibility requirements and suffered financial losses as a result of the wildfires.
Who qualifies for support
One of the main requirements is that businesses experienced a drop in turnover of at least 5% between July and December 2025, compared with the highest corresponding six-month total recorded during the previous five years.
The amount of financial support is calculated as a portion of the lost turnover.
The minimum payment is €3,000, while the maximum is €50,000, subject to European Union limits on de minimis state aid.
Compensation continues for direct damage
Separately, the government is continuing to compensate businesses that suffered direct material damage from the wildfires, including damage to equipment, raw materials and other business assets.
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, a total of €217,838.54 was paid to 14 businesses affected by the August 2025 fires.
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection continues to implement the state aid framework on Chios in cooperation with the relevant authorities and the Chios regional unit.
