A 54-year-old Pakistani national reported to police in Greece’s Evia region that his 40-year-old Greek wife was being held against her will at an unknown location, triggering an investigation that quickly took an unexpected turn.
Police began searching for the woman and used the location data from her cellphone to identify a house in Theologos, in the municipality of Dirfys-Messapia.
When officers arrived, they found the doors of the house open. Inside, they discovered the 40-year-old woman with a 37-year-old Pakistani national, reportedly her lover. The pair were caught by surprise during the police operation.
The investigation found that there had been no kidnapping or hostage situation. According to police, the woman had voluntarily left her marital home and her children in mid-June and had been staying with the 37-year-old man.
An argument led to the police report
While the woman was away, her 54-year-old husband had temporarily traveled to his home country.
The situation changed after an intense argument between the woman and the 37-year-old man. During the confrontation, the man allegedly shouted at her and pulled her hair.
The woman, regretting her decision, then sent a message to her husband asking him to come and get her.
Believing that his wife was in danger, the husband contacted the police, who went to locate her.
At the police station, the woman filed a complaint against the 37-year-old man for verbal abuse and said she wanted to return to her husband and children.
A check of the 37-year-old man’s documents found that he was living in Greece illegally, as he did not have the required legal documents.
He was arrested and taken before the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Chalkida.
