Fuel prices across Greece continue to climb steadily, placing mounting pressure on household and business budgets alike.
According to the latest official figures released by the national Fuel Price Observatory for Thursday, May 14, 2026, the nationwide average price for 95-octane unleaded gasoline has reached €2.097 per liter.
The sharp rise at the pump is being driven by international market pressures, but geographic disparities within Greece are worsening the situation domestically.
Once again, residents and visitors in island regions are facing shockingly high prices, as transportation costs push the final price per liter to extreme levels.
Greek Islands Lead the Fuel Price Surge
A breakdown of fuel prices across the country shows that the Cyclades and Dodecanese remain the most expensive regions in Greece for fuel.
Specifically:
- Cyclades Prefecture: Recorded the highest fuel prices nationwide, with standard unleaded gasoline reaching €2.237 per liter, while diesel stood at €2.019 per liter.
- Dodecanese Prefecture: The price of 95-octane unleaded gasoline climbed to €2.174 per liter.
- Kefalonia Prefecture: The average price reached €2.150 per liter.
At the opposite end of the scale, the most “moderate” prices — though still remaining above the €2 threshold — were recorded in mainland Greece.
The lowest average prices were seen in the prefectures of Ioannina (€2.071/liter), Pieria (€2.072/liter), and Chios (€2.073/liter).
Prices in Major Urban Centers
In Greece’s two largest urban centers, where fuel consumption is highest, prices remained close to the national average.
In Attica, 95-octane unleaded gasoline was sold at an average of €2.082 per liter, while diesel was priced at €1.790 per liter.
In Thessaloniki, the corresponding prices stood at €2.088 per liter for unleaded gasoline and €1.798 per liter for diesel fuel.
