A dispute in Strasbourg between Greek journalist Nikos Giannopoulos and Member of the European Parliament Nikos Pappas has escalated, with Giannopoulos accusing Pappas of physical assault.

Giannopoulos told Greek media outlet MEGA that the confrontation occurred at a local restaurant, during which Pappas allegedly verbally attacked and punched him. “Mr. Pappas says he hit me but didn’t punch me. That is a lie. He hit me and punched me from behind as I was leaving,” Giannopoulos stated.

He added that the incident followed a previous professional disagreement between the two, though he declined to provide details about that earlier dispute.

According to Giannopoulos, Pappas attempted to show contrition afterward, sending multiple messages and phone calls, some of which were reportedly deleted.

The journalist confirmed that he intends to file for legal protection and press charges against Pappas on Monday, signaling a continuation of the confrontation through the Greek judicial system.
