The Panhellenic Federation of Journalists’ Associations (POESY) and its member unions (ESIEA, ESIEMΘ, ESIEPIN, ESIEΘΣτΕΕ, and ESΠΗT) have announced a new 24-hour nationwide strike for all journalists across public and private media, from 5 AM on Tuesday, March 11, to 5 AM on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
This follows a similar mass strike on February 18, in which journalists across television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and online media demanded fair wages, improved working conditions, and the signing of collective bargaining agreements.
Key Demands:
- End to individual contracts – Initiate meaningful collective bargaining negotiations.
- Minimum starting salary of €1,250 in all media outlets.
- 10% wage increases based on the latest collective labor agreements.
- Higher pay for weekend work (+25% for Saturday, +100% for Sunday) & increased compensation for field assignments.
- Hazard pay (€350/day for war zones, €250/day for natural disaster areas).
- Incorporation of ethical principles into contracts, anti-SLAPP protections, and AI regulations in journalism.
- Fair copyright royalties for journalists in print, digital, and broadcast media.
- Financial assistance to counter inflation, similar to measures provided for public media employees.
- Removal of restrictions on collective agreements in public media, including salary raises and the reinstatement of 13th & 14th salaries for state media employees.
- Measures to combat rising costs in food, energy, and housing, as well as government support for print journalism and job security.
- Restoration of journalists’ right to unilateral arbitration in labor disputes.
Journalists are sending a clear message: the press cannot and will not tolerate unfair wages and precarious conditions.
To Vima International Edition is once again participating in the strike, standing in solidarity with the demands for Collective Labor Agreements and fair compensation for all media professionals.
