Greek Landlord Accused of Trying to Suffocate Boy Faces Judge

A 58-year-old man in Crete has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to suffocate an 8-year-old tenant with a pillow and later chasing the child's older brother with his car

The landlord in Heraklion, Crete who is faces felony charges of attempted homicide with intent for trying to suffocate an 8-year-old boy with a pillow was brought before a judge on Friday afternoon.

The 58-year-old is the owner of the two-story building. He lives on the second floor, while the mother and her children rent the apartment on the first floor.

Meanwhile, the mother of the young boy spoke to MEGA about the incident.

“He grabbed a pillow and almost suffocated my child. It wasn’t until my older son realized what was happening and kept shouting at him to leave that he finally did. Then he started chasing my older child down the street,” the boys’ mother said, adding:

“I had left the children alone at home for 10 minutes. They had an argument and shut the door. When my younger son closed the door, he heard the noise, came into the house, and started slapping the children because they were making too much noise. Then he grabbed a pillow.”

According to the mother, the landlord had often complained about the children’s noise. This time, however, he took advantage of her absence and entered the apartment.

“He had never done anything like this before—he had never come into the house. When the children make noise, he usually just shouts from outside. He’ll call out something like, ‘Hey, your kids are making too much noise.'”

Following the alleged break-in and assault on the two boys, the incident escalated further, with the man allegedly leaving the house and chasing the 12-year-old boy with his car.

The suspect remains in custody and has been granted until tomorrow afternoon to appear before an investigating magistrate. He now faces upgraded charges, including attempted murder.
