Thousands of Athenians are flooding the capital’s ports on Saturday, August 8, in the peak of the annual summer holiday exodus, with ferries to the Cyclades sailing at full capacity and port authorities deploying additional personnel to manage the surge.
A total of 25 sailings carrying 31,392 passengers are scheduled from Piraeus on Saturday, rising to 23 departures with 34,441 travelers on Sunday. From the port of Rafina, 14 sailings will carry 9,700 passengers today and 15 sailings 7,320 tomorrow. The port of Lavrio is handling eight departures with 3,628 passengers on Saturday and 11 with 3,167 on Sunday.
Traffic to the Saronic Gulf islands is also heavy, with 54 passenger and car ferry services departing Piraeus on Saturday carrying an estimated 11,701 passengers, rising to 58 sailings and approximately 9,270 passengers on Sunday.
The Hellenic Coast Guard has introduced enhanced measures to facilitate embarkation and ensure an orderly flow of passengers across all three Attica ports.
