Μake us preferred on Google The Municipality of Kassandra in Halkidiki, northern Greece, is continuing a campaign to remove illegally placed umbrellas, sun loungers and other equipment from beaches, while reminding residents, businesses and visitors that permanently leaving such items on beaches and other public areas is prohibited under Greek law.
Before removal operations, informational notices are posted where required, asking people to remove their equipment themselves. The notices are provided in Greek, English and a Slavic language so that they can also be understood by visitors from Balkan countries.
The municipality has been conducting organized removal operations since mid-July. The actions follow complaints and inspections by relevant authorities, including the Hellenic Police and the Ministry of Tourism.
Equipment removed by municipal crews is not returned to its owners. Umbrellas, sun loungers and other items collected during the operations are sent to licensed recycling facilities in accordance with established procedures and relevant contracts.
Operations expand across Kassandra
So far, operations have been carried out at six vllages, including Mola Kaliva, Nea Skioni, Kallithea within the settlement, Hanioti, and the coastal area between Kryopigi and Polychrono.
The operations are being conducted with assistance from the Kassandra Police Department and will continue in other parts of the municipality, depending on complaints, inspections and whether municipal vehicles can access the locations.
The Municipality of Kassandra is calling on everyone to comply with the law and help preserve the public character of the beaches and ensure free access for the public.
