Greece is set for a spell of hotter weather as temperatures climb over the coming days, accompanied by Saharan dust, according to the country’s National Meteorological Service.
Sunday is expected to bring generally clear skies across most of the country, with temperatures reaching 32C to 34C in many areas. Weather conditions will also gradually favor the transport of Saharan dust, mainly across western Greece.
Hotter Conditions Early Next Week
The heat is forecast to intensify on Monday, with temperatures reaching 35C to 37C across the mainland and locally climbing to 38C. On the islands, highs are expected to range between 33C and 35C.
Southern winds of 3 to 5 Beaufort are forecast for most areas, while western winds could locally reach 6 Beaufort in southern parts of the country. Northern Greece may also see temporary cloud cover during the afternoon, with isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly over mountainous areas.
Dust to Linger as Heat Continues
On Tuesday, conditions will remain mostly sunny, although brief afternoon cloud development over the mainland could trigger isolated showers or thunderstorms in mountainous regions. Saharan dust is expected to persist, particularly across southern Greece, while temperatures are forecast to remain at similar levels.
By Wednesday, the weather will stay largely settled, with only isolated afternoon showers possible over mountainous inland areas. Northern winds are expected to strengthen in eastern parts of the country, and maximum temperatures are forecast to ease slightly compared with the previous days.
