Twins Orphaned After Jailed Mother Dies by Suicide in Case Linked to Slain UC Berkeley Prof Jeziorski

The 12-year-old twins remain in state care pending a court ruling on guardianship and residence after the death of their mother, who was awaiting trial over the 2025 killing of Polish academic Przemyslaw Jeziorski in Athens

The 12-year-old twins of slain Polish-American academic Przemyslaw Jeziorski have been left without either parent after their mother, who was awaiting trial on charges of masterminding her former husband’s murder, died by apparent suicide in a Piraeus-area prison nearly 11 months after the killing.

The children remain in state care as Greek courts have yet to decide on their permanent residence and guardianship. Lawyers involved in the case said the twins have been informed of their mother’s death.

The woman was found dead in her cell at Korydallos Prison, according to local media reports. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of her death. Reports said she left a note addressed to her children expressing her love and pride for them.

Jeziorski, 43, was shot dead on July 4, 2025, in the northeast Athens suburb of Agia Paraskevi after traveling to Greece to see the twins. The killing sparked widespread media attention because of an acrimonious custody dispute and financial disagreements between the former spouses.

According to prosecutors, the professor’s ex-wife played a central role in planning the murder, allegations she has consistently denied. Authorities said her then-partner carried out the shooting with the assistance of three accomplices who allegedly helped secure a weapon, transported the gunman and facilitated his escape.

Authorities said the suspects traveled from the southern coastal town of Nafplio to Athens and parked a rental vehicle near the scene before the attack. The gunman allegedly approached Jeziorski at close range, shot him multiple times and fled in a waiting car.

The four defendants later admitted their involvement in the crime, according to court documents, while the ex-wife maintained her innocence and was awaiting trial when she was found hung.

Jeziorski’s brother is reportedly traveling to Greece to support the children as legal proceedings continue. The two children remain in protective care while a court decision on their long-term guardianship and place of residence remains pending, a delay that lawyers representing Jeziorski’s family have criticized.
