Police in Athens have launched a manhunt for two suspects involved in a violent robbery attempt that left a kiosk employee seriously injured.
The attack took place on Monday afternoon in the Exarchia district, a central neighborhood of the Greek capital. According to authorities, the two assailants stabbed the 50-year-old worker when he tried to stop them from stealing goods from the kiosk.
Investigation focuses on surveillance footage
Law enforcement officials are now reviewing footage from nearby security cameras in an effort to identify and locate the suspects. Investigators are focusing on two individuals believed to have carried out the attack.
Authorities are also examining whether the suspects may be linked to similar incidents reported in the wider area.
Victim in stable condition after surgery
After undergoing emergency surgery, the victim’s condition is now described as stable, according to hospital sources. He had suffered a serious injury to an artery in his leg, resulting in heavy blood loss.
Police officers who arrived at the scene played a critical role in saving his life by applying a tourniquet to stop the bleeding before he was transported to hospital.
Shock in the local community
The kiosk remained closed following the attack, with friends and colleagues of the victim expressing shock over the incident.
“It was a senseless act of violence,” a close acquaintance said, adding that the community is now waiting for further updates on the man’s recovery.
