More than 300 inspections have already been carried out across the Greek market by the Independent Authority for Market Surveillance and Consumer Protection (IAMEK) in preparation for Easter. The Authority’s presence will be further reinforced over the next two days, with heightened operational activity at key market points.
According to the Authority’s latest data for Holy Thursday, lamb prices remain broadly in line with last year:
• Supermarkets: 11.49–11.90 euros per kilogram (covering over 98% of the market by weighted share)
• Large wholesale markets (e.g., Varvakeios): from 8.99 euros per kilogram
The Authority monitors daily price trends and the availability of Easter products, including lamb and goat meat, through continuous and systematic data collection and analysis across the market.
In addition, inspections have been significantly intensified nationwide to ensure fair competition and protect consumers, particularly during this period of heightened demand.
Consumer Options
Consumers also enjoy a variety of choices at neighborhood butcher shops, where product availability is sufficient and competition keeps prices healthy.
Authorities note that a more comprehensive and objective picture of price developments will emerge during the peak of commercial activity over the coming two days, when final market offers will be reflected.
