An unprecedented family drama played out at a central Greece courthouse on Monday when the mother of a nine-and-a-half-year boy, who reportedly suffers from an autistic spectrum disorder, abandoned him there.

According to the local news outlet Lamiareport.gr, the boy’s mother abandoned the child when hearing a court decision giving custody to the biological father.

The same press reports stated that the father claimed he had not recognized the child as his own given because he had contact with him, as the mother had disappeared with the latter. However, he was paying regular monthly support.

Upon hearing the ruling in a Lamia first instance court, the women simply departed the building without briefing the other parent or social workers about the medicines he must take or his medical records, merely leaving the child with only the clothes on his back.

The child was later transported to an Athens-area public hospital where all the necessary medical tests will be conducted.
