An unusual sight startled swimmers Tuesday afternoon when a large fish suddenly appeared in the shallow waters off Psatha beach, in the coastal area of the eastern Corinth Gulf, northwest of Athens proper.
According to video recorded by one of the beachgoers and posted on TikTok, the fish’s tail and fin could be seen above the water, initially alarming swimmers who initially thought it might be a shark.
A few minutes later, the fish moved toward deeper waters and disappeared from view.
Comments on the video offered differing views on the species, with some suggesting it was a swordfish and others identifying it as a greater amberjack.
