The Municipality of Papagou–Cholargos has officially opened a network of ten modern hiking trails on Mount Hymettus, totaling 30.1 kilometers within the mountain’s protected zone. The project aims to improve public access, safety, and the overall recreational experience for hikers.

Funded through Greece’s Recovery Fund as part of the national initiative “Creation of a National Network of Trails and Walking Routes”, the development included extensive clearing of paths, repair of damaged or hazardous sections, and the installation of comprehensive signage. The trails are now fully interconnected, allowing hikers to navigate safely and with clear orientation.

Mayor Ilias Apostolopoulos highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “Mount Hymettus is an integral part of our city’s identity. With the completion of the trail network, we ensure safe access for residents, highlight the natural environment, and invest in quality of life, with respect for the mountain and future generations.”

The new trail network offers both locals and visitors an opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Mount Hymettus while promoting sustainable outdoor activities. The municipality emphasized that the project combines environmental protection with improved recreational infrastructure, reflecting a broader effort to enhance urban green spaces.
