According to information released so far, the autopsy concluded that the cause of death was chest injuries caused by a sharp-edged weapon. The 42-year-old is believed to have suffered a single stab wound, which proved fatal after puncturing her lung.
The same information indicates that the injury was caused by a knife, adding to the questions surrounding the circumstances of the attack.
“The Fatal Blow Was Not Defensive,” Family Says
In a statement issued through the family’s attorney, Maria Kazantzaki, the victim’s relatives said that, after reviewing the audiovisual evidence included in the case file—which was leaked to the media hours earlier—they believe the fatal wound was not inflicted in self-defense but was instead a highly aggressive attack that ultimately claimed the 42-year-old’s life.
The family argues that someone caught by surprise would not have had enough time within seven seconds to carry out all the defensive actions the suspect claims to have taken.
The statement reads:
“After reviewing the audiovisual material contained in the case file, which was leaked to the press a few hours ago, the victim’s family has concluded that, regardless of the reason the deceased went to the suspects’ residence, she remained inside for an extremely short period—exactly seven (7) seconds.
“According to common sense, within those seven seconds, a person taken by surprise would not have enough time to perform all the alleged defensive actions the suspect claims to have made.
“The same video clearly shows the deceased leaving the suspects’ home very quickly and with great agility. She bends down comfortably, picks up her backpack with her right hand—the side where the fatal wound was allegedly inflicted—and moves with remarkable speed. She descends the steps of the yard two at a time, sprinting away without showing the slightest sign of discomfort, pain, or injury.
“It is difficult to understand how she could have made these movements if the wound had been inflicted inside the house.
“Up to the point where she leaves the suspects’ property while being chased by the alleged perpetrator, she shows no indication whatsoever that she has been injured.
“Instead, the audiovisual material shows that, rather than being afraid of the alleged intruder, he confidently runs after her and forcefully throws a chair at her. She most likely managed to avoid it, as it shattered when it struck a wall. Had it hit her, her body would have absorbed the impact and prevented it from breaking apart. He then continues chasing her at speed while clearly holding a green-colored knife in his hand.
“It is therefore far more likely that, while pursuing her with that knife and no longer acting in self-defense but instead attacking her, he inflicted the fatal wound outside the residence, approximately 50 to 70 meters away.
“Such a blow cannot, under any circumstances, be considered defensive. It was an extremely aggressive attack that, as has now been established, proved fatal. According to the autopsy report, her death was caused by ‘chest injuries inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon.’ The report concludes that the stab wound was the fatal injury because it punctured her lung.
“The victim’s family seeks justice for the unjust loss of their only daughter and has complete confidence that the Greek judicial system will deliver it.”

What the Couple Claims
