Greek authorities have issued an orange warning for a very high risk of wildfires on Sunday, August 2, according to the Fire Service’s daily Fire Risk Forecast Map.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has identified Attica, Evia (Euboea), and Boeotia as the three regions facing a very high wildfire danger.
State agencies, regional authorities, and municipalities in the affected areas have been placed on heightened alert to ensure a rapid response to any wildfire outbreaks.
Civil Protection has also urged residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution and avoid activities in the countryside that could accidentally spark fires. These include burning dry grass, branches or other vegetation, using machinery that produces sparks—such as angle grinders or welding equipment—operating outdoor barbecues, carrying out beekeeping activities involving smoke, or discarding lit cigarettes.
Authorities also reminded the public that the burning of agricultural fields remains strictly prohibited throughout the fire season.
Anyone who spots a wildfire is urged to immediately notify the Fire Service by calling the emergency number 199.
