Greek police are investigating multiple scenarios in the abduction and murder of a 27-year-old man in Nea Peramos, focusing on possible financial or personal disputes and examining whether the crime could be linked to a previous killing.

The victim was abducted about a week before he was found dead in a stream in the Nea Peramos area, bearing 10 gunshot wounds. His hands and feet were bound, and the perpetrators had attempted to burn his body, according to authorities. A forensic report indicated he died only a few hours before his body was discovered, suggesting he may have been held alive for several days after the abduction.

Key questions for investigators

Police say all possibilities remain open as they work to determine the motive, the location and timing of the killing, and whether the victim had unresolved disputes. Investigators are closely examining people in his circle for potential financial disagreements.

Authorities are also exploring whether the case is connected to the 2024 killing of a businessman in the nearby area of Mandra. In that case, the victim was shot inside his vehicle and the perpetrators set the car on fire. Investigators note that suspects in the Nea Peramos case also appear to have tried to burn the victim’s body.

Abduction caught on camera

Security camera footage captured the victim returning home shortly before he disappeared. Just after 2 a.m. on January 26, two men dressed in black approached him outside his residence and forced him into a car. One of the men appeared to be carrying a weapon.

From that moment, his phone was switched off and all contact was lost. His partner — the last person to see him alive — reported him missing. She told police he had rung the doorbell because he had forgotten his keys after visiting a nearby internet café. Although she opened the door, he never came upstairs. When she went to look for him, he had vanished.

Body found days later

Six days later, a man walking his dog in a remote area of Nea Peramos found the body and alerted police. Officers described the scene as pointing to an organized and extremely violent crime.

Victim’s background

According to family members, the 27-year-old had no criminal record. He had recently been running a small contracting business and was living with his fiancée. Neighbors reportedly saw him rarely.

His mother said he had expressed fear in the past, without giving details. She recalled two burglaries at family homes several years ago, after which he urged her to temporarily leave Athens for her safety. She said he never explained what worried him.

Relatives and friends described him as a quiet person focused on work. His family was financially comfortable, and he had recently been driving an expensive car. He had also previously played soccer at a local club.

Ongoing investigation

Police say they are carefully reviewing information that could connect the victim to individuals linked to the earlier businessman’s murder. For now, investigators are concentrating on his professional and social environment as they try to identify suspects and clarify the motive.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and express optimism that key questions will soon be answered.
