Santorini Police Raid Uncovers Drugs, Weapons and Cannabis Plants

Two men were arrested after a police operation on the Greek island uncovered drugs, firearms and a hydroponic cannabis cultivation setup

A police operation targeting drug trafficking on the Greek island of Santorini has led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of drugs, weapons and cannabis plants.

The operation took place on Tuesday, June 9, as part of efforts to combat the distribution of illegal substances. Two men, aged 33 and 41, were arrested and face charges related to drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons.

According to police, simultaneous searches were carried out at the homes of both suspects, where authorities discovered a range of items linked to drug-related activities.

Findings at the 33-year-old’s home

During the search of the 33-year-old man’s residence, police found and confiscated 46.5 grams of raw cannabis, eight packages of cocaine with a total weight of 7 grams, and two precision electronic scales.

Authorities also seized a handgun, 11 rounds of ammunition, €100 in cash and a mobile phone.

Hydroponic cannabis operation discovered

At the home of the 41-year-old foreign national, police discovered a fully equipped hydroponic cannabis cultivation facility.

The setup included two makeshift structures with shading systems, support beams, lamps and ventilation equipment designed for growing cannabis plants.

Police seized 26 cannabis plants in the development stage, 248.4 grams of raw cannabis, an air gun, eight rounds of ammunition, a precision electronic scale, €300 in cash, a laptop and a mobile phone.

Previous incident under investigation

The investigation also revealed that on April 15, the 33-year-old had allegedly been involved in another incident. Police said he was driving a car with a 20-year-old foreign national as a passenger when he fled from a police check and threw away a handgun.

A case file had previously been opened over that incident for illegal weapon possession, dangerous driving and disobedience.

The two arrested men were taken before the Prosecutor’s Office in Naxos for further proceedings.
