Seven people arrested over a fatal clash in Kallithea are facing serious criminal charges following the death of a 15-year-old boy, who was fatally injured during a violent confrontation between groups of young people.

A prosecutor reviewed the evidence collected during the preliminary investigation and brought charges that include intentional homicide, involvement in a violent group clash involving weapons that resulted in death and serious injuries, dangerous bodily harm, illegal possession and use of weapons.

Authorities said the charges are linked to an incident with a sports-related background.

The suspects were taken before an investigating magistrate, where they are expected to request time to prepare their defense.

The deadly confrontation

The incident took place shortly before midnight at a park in Kallithea, at the intersection of Megaloupoleos and Kremou streets.

According to the investigation, a 17-year-old who has admitted involvement in the attack was at the location with five friends. Across from them was a group of three minors, following earlier heated arguments at the same spot.

The tension reportedly escalated when the three teenagers called for reinforcements. Five more people arrived by car, including the 15-year-old victim.

A chase followed on Megaloupoleos Street, where the 17-year-old stopped the 15-year-old and fatally wounded him in the chest with a knife.

The teenager was taken by ambulance to Ippokration General Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

Police investigation continues

Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantina Dimoglidi said that 17 people have so far been identified as involved in the clash, while seven have been arrested.

She stressed that the investigation is ongoing and that authorities are continuing efforts to clarify all aspects of the incident.

According to police information, the victim had previously come to authorities’ attention twice in relation to weapons law violations, including an incident involving a knife and another involving a knuckleduster. However, police said they had not found evidence that he was carrying a weapon during the fatal confrontation.
