Authorities are scrutinizing the final minutes, and particularly the critical last seconds, of the helicopter flight that crashed on the island of Sifnos, killing all three people on board.
The accident occurred in the Tholos area, near the island’s helipad. Just a few yards before its scheduled landing, the helicopter appears to have lost control. The crash triggered a powerful explosion, and the aircraft burst into flames.
The victims include the 55-year-old pilot, who was of Greek origin, and a newlywed British couple who had chartered the helicopter for their honeymoon on Sifnos.
Investigators are placing particular emphasis on video footage obtained by the authorities. The footage appears to show the helicopter moving erratically, spinning and losing altitude before eventually hitting the ground very close to the landing site.

The flight had departed from the wider Markopoulo area in eastern Attica. According to information available so far, the pilot had notified the relevant authorities that he was preparing to land, but radio contact then went silent for several seconds.

He had previously served in the Greek Armed Forces and continued working as a professional helicopter pilot after retiring from military service.
