An autopsy performed Tuesday, Aug. 25, on the bodies of the 53-year-old pilot and the British couple who died in a helicopter crash on the Greek island of Sifnos found that all three died from the effects of the fire.

According to the preliminary findings of the forensic examination, the three occupants died as a result of exposure to the fire.

Samples were also collected for toxicological and histological testing, with further results expected from those examinations.

The victims suffered severe burns in the crash, according to the initial forensic findings.

The bodies of the British couple are expected to be released to their families. Their relatives traveled from Britain to provide DNA samples and take custody of their loved ones.

The helicopter crash in Sifnos claimed the lives of all three people on board.
