Volunteers and municipal workers successfully rescued six large dogs that were trapped for days inside an irrigation reservoir in northern Greece.
The animals were found in a water tank near the city of Katerini, where they had reportedly been stranded since at least April 10 under unclear circumstances.
The incident came to light after an animal welfare group shared video footage online, quickly drawing attention and prompting action from local officials.
Authorities launched a coordinated rescue operation involving the municipality’s animal collection unit and the fire service.
Rescuers faced challenging conditions, as the dogs were exhausted and frightened after spending several days in the water and initially resisting attempts to approach them.
Despite the obstacles, teams managed to safely retrieve all six dogs.
Thanks to the coordinated effort and careful handling, the animals were pulled out without injury and are now reported to be in good health.
