A small Greek island community is in mourning following a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy and left another teenager seriously injured.
The crash occurred on Easter Sunday evening, when the motorcycle driven by the 15-year-old reportedly veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a car driven by a 24-year-old woman. According to the director of the island’s local health center, the young rider sustained severe head and neck injuries.
“He had suffered critical trauma, showed no response and could not move. He died within half an hour,” the doctor said, describing the boy’s condition after the collision.
The 17-year-old passenger was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. He was transferred to a hospital in the nearby city of Ioannina, where he remains under medical care.
Preliminary findings from the police investigation indicate that the 15-year-old did not have a driving license, and neither of the two teenagers was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Following the incident, the 24-year-old driver of the car was arrested on charges of negligent homicide. However, she was later released by order of a prosecutor.
