A 15-year-old girl was rescued after falling into the Corinth Canal in southern Greece on Wednesday night, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
According to reports, the teenager had earlier been seen near the canal walking along the steep embankment. A passerby alerted authorities, prompting police and coast guard officers to rush to the scene.
Rescue Operation in the Canal
Officers later located the girl in the water, where she was found floating and still conscious. They were able to communicate with her and guide her towards a safer area.
Following their instructions, the teenager swam for around 20 minutes until reaching a location near a movable bridge structure, where rescue teams were able to retrieve her from the water safely.
Hospitalization and Investigation
The rescue operation concluded successfully, and the girl was transported by ambulance to hospital in the nearby city of Corinth. She sustained a back injury and is receiving medical care.
