A 54-year-old woman has been referred to a Thessaloniki investigating magistrate to answer felony charges after running over a cat with her car, killing the animal. The incident happened Thursday morning in the Ampelokipoi-Menemeni municipal area of Thessaloniki.
According to reports, the woman’s arrest followed a complaint to authorities that claimed she deliberately ran over the animal. That complaint relies on footage from a nearby shop’s security camera, which captured the incident.
The animal was collected by the municipality’s relevant service and taken to Aristotle University’s Veterinary Clinic for a necropsy to help determine the exact circumstances and cause of death.
Felony charges were filed against the woman under Greece’s companion-animal protection law. She will be called to answer the charges, which she denies.
