A 24-year-old woman was hospitalized early Thursday after being injured with a sharp object during an altercation with a 31-year-old man in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, police said.

Both the woman and the man were arrested following the incident, while authorities continue to investigate what led to the confrontation.

According to information cited by the Greek news outlet Thestival, the incident took place at an apartment where the 31-year-old had been hosting the woman.

An argument reportedly broke out between the two before the confrontation turned violent. The woman sustained injuries to her neck and lower back.

Police officers from the Z motorcycle patrol unit arrived at the scene and provided the woman with first aid before she was taken to Gennimatas Hospital for further medical treatment.

According to the report, the 31-year-old claimed that the woman had attempted to rob him, which he said led to the confrontation.

Information cited in the report also indicated that both individuals are drug users. Police arrested both people, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
