The University of Crete has secured a noteworthy presence on the World’s Top 2% Scientists list compiled annually by Stanford University, with 85 members of its academic community recognized among the leading researchers worldwide. The distinction highlights the university’s sustained commitment to high-impact scientific work.
The acknowledged scholars include 42 members of the School of Science and Technology, 39 from the School of Medicine, two from the School of Social Sciences, and one each from the School of Education and the School of Philosophy, reflecting the institution’s broad research footprint.
The Stanford list evaluates scientists according to a comprehensive bibliometric methodology. Rankings are based on the c-score, a composite indicator that incorporates total citations, the h-index, the Hm-index adjusted for co-authorship, citations to single-author work, and additional metrics designed to ensure reliability and global comparability.
The University of Crete’s leadership notes that this international recognition underscores the institution’s scientific excellence and its strong position in the global research landscape.
Two datasets are published each year: one assessing overall career-long scientific output and another capturing annual performance. The official data are hosted in the Elsevier Data Repository.
