The latest addition to the Hellenic Navy, the Frigate “Kimon”, entered the Aegean Sea this week en route to the Salamina naval anchorage off the greater Athens-Piraeus area.
The vessel, the lead ship of the Kimon class of frigates known as FDI HN, is the first of four ordered by Greece from France’s Naval Group.
The Belharra-type vessel is expected to arrive on Thursday, where a welcoming ceremony is planned.
The state-of-the-art Kimon will be followed by the Nearchos, Formion and Themistoklis.
Greece’s military plans to deploy the four FDI frigates and at least two Bergamini-class frigates by the beginning of the next decade.
